Club Diversity is one of those places that feels very familiar. An old Victorian, complete with a porch, piano bar and gazebo in back, it really is like going to someone's house party....a "cool" house party. Friendly staff, live entertainment and themed movie nights are just part of its charm. It could be open later, but it is what it is in the meantime. Great place to be though.
A bit disappointed
I visited the website for Club Diversity, and liked the layout and planned to visit there on my next trip to Columbus. Nice place, but overall, the folks there were not to talkative, including the staff. I do plan to visit there again, though, as I shouldn't write off a place on one visit alone. It is a very interesting place.
an okay place
An okay place, more of a old timer bar, not for the younger crowd who like to really party and dance
awesome patio
A Victorian house converted into a bar with an older, cliquey crowd. It's worth noting their schedule of trashy, themed movie nights. Club Diversity's big draw, though, is its awesome patio: a big backyard with gazebos, perfect for a happy hour pitcher of beer with friends on a sunny day.
Has a lot of potential
It looks like a nice place with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, what mostly ruins it is an overrated Columbus gay community. The gay community is so highly touted here; I’m not impressed. It’s nothing more than a bunch of Appalachian hillbillies that have the pretension that they are part of a major metropolis. (As I like to tell people, Columbus is West Virginia's largest city!) It’s very cliquish and not open or friendly, and it is a low brow crowd. I had much better luck meeting people when I lived on the east coast, and they were people that were more appealing to talk to.
In addition, there are problems with a couple of the bartenders: one charges different prices every time you come up to him (raising them in succession....he's the one that smiles at you phony), and another recently spent his time surfing the internet and acted perturbed when I asked him for the wifi password. He spouted it off quickly and unclearly, acting annoyed when I asked him verify. (The password contained a “plus” – is the word spelled out, or is it the “+” sign?)
The back patio is overrated too; pretty dirty from all the smokers.
Columbusites seem to have a thing about touting up themselves and their city, this bar included. It isn't all that.
Best Martini's in Town!
Wonderful bar staff, great drinks, live entertainment AWESOME back yard/patios (4).
that back court...
The back patio is awesome! i happened to fall into this place once and had a blast with some close friends. Ended up here on Christmas or Thanksgiving (can't remember which one) and had a good time.
A bit stuffy...
If your scene is more refined and worldly, then Club Diversity may be a good fit with you. The environment is very arts oriented - live music, theatre, film, etc. The patrons are professional and older, and from the point of view of an outsider, snobby and exclusive. However, the staff is very friendly and accomodating. If you are looking for excitement or are a stranger in town, I don't suggest you visit.
Fun, but kinda tacky
The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. There are a lot of good ideas, but poorly executed. The outside patio is nice, but the plastic chairs are tacky and the omnipresent bright-as-the-sun humming light out back is distracting. It would be nice to have music out there as well. The setup of the inside furniture is good, but the cheap tables and chairs are ugly. The front porch and yard are under utilized and would make a great area to listen to the lounge singers and watch South High Street. All and all, I like it here, but I can’t stay long ever due to the depressing décor.
Love this place!!
Best martinis in the city, great staff, Jack is great! The back court yard is a great place to take friends just to hang out and enjoy each other.
Cute lounge-type bar
This is a cute, surprisingly upscale lounge bar, suitable for dates or an outing with friends. The bar is situated within an old house and this adds to the charm of the location. Outside are gazebos that are perfect in the summer months. Some nights feature a piano bar and singers.
