An icon of screen, stage and dog shit, the late Divine was truly one of a kind. Stonewall Columbus invites fans and film lovers to Franklinton’s newest bar and event space for a late night, one-time presentation of Jeffrey Schwarz’s loving documentary portrait, I Am Divine.
I Am Divine sheds light on the life of the notorious star of Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble and other cult classics. Filmmaker John Waters and frequent co-star Mink Stole are among the friends interviewed for the film, and Divine speaks for himself through archival footage and memorable clips of his film and stage work.
Funny, heartfelt and endearing, I Am Divine is a must-see movie about “a quintessential outsider — a chubby, effeminate boy relentlessly bullied in high school — who struck back and realized his unlikely dream of being a movie star,” as Stephen Holden wrote in The New York Times.
Moviegoers are invited to come early for Divine-inspired drink specials and a fabulous dinner from Strongwater's recently unveiled menu, a hit with vegans and carnivores alike.
Tickets are $6 general admission. Advance tickets are on sale now at What the Rock?! and online through www.stonewallcolumbus.org. Day-of-show tickets will be available at the door only, starting at 9 p.m.
