Yes…you heard right! We are thrilled to present the first annual “25-hour Moby Dick Community Marathon Reading”! The entire book shall be read aloud from its first memorable line to its very end. And we want YOU to join us! This reading shall be done by our community and we invite you to attend this unique experience as a reader or just a listener. It has been said that Moby Dick has within it “the DNA of America” and although this book is considered one of the great books…we believe its importance is that it is more relevant than ever today. It is an explosion of language, history and very simply… a quite thorough examination of our human condition. If you have ever wanted to read the book or just hear it…. Here is your chance! Or you can just come for a chapter or two!! We want this to be a celebration of community, literacy and a reminder that reading is fun! Especially out-loud! With the advent of this marathon, Columbus will be only the 4th city in the country to host such an event following New York City, Mystic Seaport, CT and New Bedford, Mass, the once home of the whaling industry.
If you would like to join us and read…. Please email Lori Gum at lori@periodisa.com or just comment below. We are breaking the reading sessions into 2-hour increments… so we just want to know what 2-hour span in which you will be showing up to read. You can read one chapter or as many as you like. You, of course, do not need to read for the full two hours! So email us and sign-up! We will also allow walk-in readers… but readers who sign-up previously will be given priority. We could also use some readers in the middle of the night! Here are time slots:
