Focusing on the 2012 legal battle in Maryland—one of 17 states in the US to have legalized same-sex marriage—director Yoruba Richen delivers a nuanced exploration of the diverse range of attitudes from people on both sides of the debate and provides insight into this unique nexus of race, religion, and sexual identity.
